The Rochester Youth Soccer Association is pleased to announce that eleven of its players have been selected to represent the state of Minnesota on the state’s Olympic Development Program teams. This year, more than 1,200 players from across the state tried out for Minnesota’s ODP teams in a bid to be one of only a few hundred to actually make the squads. These RYSA players were selected after attending an open tryout:
The Olympic Development Program (ODP) is a national identification program overseen by US Youth Soccer. ODP teams are formed at state and regional levels. Players at the ODP state level are selected based on four criteria: technique, tactics, fitness and athletic ability and attitude. Pools of players are identified at each age group and brought together for the purpose of developing their skills through training and competition. From these state pools and subsequent teams players are identified for regional and national pools and teams.
The Rochester Youth Soccer Association was formed in 1975 in order to support and promote the game of soccer for youth in Rochester and the surrounding communities. Each year, more than 5,000 youth participate in RYSA programs.
