Our Philosophy

RYSA’s Rec soccer program is designed to teach players soccer skills, teamwork and sportsmanship in an environment where participation and fun are the focus, not competition. The philosophy of the RYSA Recreational Soccer program is to ensure that all Rochester area youth have the opportunity to learn the game of soccer. The program provides a low-cost, safe and structured soccer experience for all area youth in grades 1-12 and can serve as a starting point before moving to more competitive programs.

REC: General Information

RYSA’s REC league is a recreational soccer program for players from 1st-12th grade. Players learn the game, make friends and have fun in an encouraging and positive environment.

Through RYSA’s REC league, teams only play teams from Rochester and the nearby surrounding areas. To encourage a fun and developmental atmosphere, each child plays at least half of each game, no matter the skill level. Scores and league standings are not recorded.

Spring 2013 Recreation League

The Spring 2013 Rec league season runs for seven weeks.   Teams will practice twice a week in the evenings, and games will be held on Saturdays from April 20, 2013, through June 8, 2013.   No games are played over Memorial Day weekend.

Boys and girls in grades 1 thru 6 will play games against other teams of the same grade and gender.

In addition, 7th-8th grade and 9th-12th grade teams will be formed and they will also play other teams of the same grades and gender.  They will not play the "street soccer" format as they do in the fall unless the number of registered players is too low to form teams.

Each player must wear shoes, socks, shin guards, shorts or long pants and a team shirt.   The shin guards must be completely covered by the player’s socks and protect the entire shin.  Shoes are not required to have cleats, but if they do the cleats must not have any sharp edges and shoes with toe cleats are not allowed. Glasses must be secured by a strap and no jewelry can be worn.

Spring 2013 Rec Season Info

Fall 2013 Recreation League

The Fall 2013 Rec season runs for 6 weeks. Teams will practice twice a week in the evenings and games will be held on Saturdays from September 7, 2013 through October 12, 2013.

Grades 1-6 will participate in league play, except that in the fall season grades are combined as follows to form teams (1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th). Teams will play games against other teams of the same grades and gender.

Grades 7-8 boys, 7-8 girls and co-ed grades 9-12 will likely participate in RYSA's "Street Soccer" format. In the street soccer format, players will practice together once each week and meet on Saturdays, where they will be placed randomly on teams for their game. If the number of registered players in these grades is high enough, then seperate teams will be formed and they will play a regular season schedule just as the younger grades do.

When registering your child for the Fall Rec 2013 season, be sure to select the grade that they will be going into for the 2013-14 school year. Not the grade they are completing or have completed this spring.
