“Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” – John Wooden
This quote highlights the philosophy of RYSA Competitive Soccer. We focus on age appropriate player development and helping each soccer player become his or her best. If we are successful in accomplishing our primary focus, we believe that team success will follow.
Competitive: Summer Competitive League
The Summer Competitive League teams start indoor practice in March and play from mid-May through mid-July. Some may qualify to play in the MYSA State Championship at the end of July. Teams compete against other MYSA teams, typically from southern MN and the south metro area. Tryouts are held in early August and all players will be notified of team placement by mid-December.
Teams typically practice twice a week and play league games on opposite weeknights of their practices. The choice to play a weekend tournaments throughout the season is available.
Players are placed on teams with youth of the same age and skill level. Team formations are based on age, prior coach evaluations and the player’s tryout score. The number of players, player registration date, and player commitment form are also factors. If a player was unable to attend tryouts, they will be placed on a team using their previous coach input and playing experience. Registration may be limited in some age groups due to availability of fields and coaches.
Coaches include qualified parents and non-parents who have at a minimum a USSF “E” Coaching Certificate and are selected based on their soccer training and experience. Coaches must be registered with MYSA and complete an on-line background check every soccer season.
